Dawn Yoshimura

I never tire of drawing, painting, or just gazing up at the Ko'olau Mountains and Pacific Ocean where I grew up. When I paint, my enduring motifs are the mountains, water, and the sky. I see them even in abstract form in architecture or food. I like exploring new landscapes and learning from each painting and hope others get as much pleasure in enjoying and contemplating my paintings.

Plein air painting

This is when you paint on location, directly observing and reacting to your environment rather than from studio projects or setups. It has a direct immediacy, an honesty and human touch that can be lost in a rendition of a photo.

I work in primarily 3 formats:

• Bonsai paintings (miniatures)
• Plein air landscapes (9x12"-18x24")
• Constructions (large)
